sleep explanation

Sleep is a condition of body and mind which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended. When you sleep you're practically unconscious, but your organs still work, even your body and other parts of the body will still grow.

Children need at least 10-11 hours of sleep a day, and teenagers need at 8-9 hours of sleep. The reason that children and teenagers need so much sleep is that so they can rest, grow and regenerate. If they don’t rest for the recommended hours of sleep then the outcome will show in their appearance, personality and mind.

As you grow older, and older you won’t need as much sleep as you did when you were younger, depending on your lifestyle. By depending on your lifestyle, I mean if you’re an adult and you live a healthy lifestyle you won’t need as much sleep, but if you live an unhealthy lifestyle then you may think you might need more than you would if you lived a more healthier lifestyle.

The reason for this is that adults have already grown to their capacity, but it still is a must that adults sleep for at least a few hours a day or their body and mind will react. Despite what I wrote about Adults needing less sleep, which must of been quite confusing, but they do need at least seven and a half hours to eight hours of sleep.

Have you ever gone to sleep with an open sore and then you wake up to see it has scabbed over? The reason why this has happened is because your body is healing and regenerating. You’re body will heal the scab and then when scab has healed the skin will fall off, or slowly peel off. While you sleep your brain also has a little cleaning spree, storing all of the important short term memories into your long term memory so you don’t forget anything important.

Sometimes when you fall asleep and you’re thinking about something straight before you do so, it is likely that you dream about that certain subject. When you dream it doesn’t necessarily make sense, so don’t be confused if you dream about something so bizarre you think you’ve gone crazy. Most of the time when you dream you don’t remember the entire dream and sometimes you don’t even remember you had a dream, but don’t fret this is completely normal. But what is normal when it comes to dreaming?

- healthy shopping plan

  1. How does the article recommend to follow a healthy pathway when shopping at a grocery store/supermarket?
    1. The article recommended that you make a list before shopping based on the healthy meals you might make throughout the week. The article also said that you should visit the outer aisles first, so you can stock up on fruit, veg and other things like bread, then the inner isle and then you can get a treat or two, also some sugar.

  1. We can buy plenty of fruit and vegetables that are frozen or canned. What does the article suggest are the pros (positives) and cons (negatives) of frozen and canned food?
    1. A pro is that frozen and canned food are more convenient and there’s less of a chance of spoilage, but a con is that frozen and canned food are packaged with extra fat and salt.

  1. What other helpful healthy advice does this article give for our grocery shopping?
    1. The article also advises that you could go to farms, orchard, or berry patch where you can pick your own fruit and veg. Also get a treat or two, or else you or your children will stray away and overeat on high-fat and sugar foods.

- athletics practice

As a part of athletics we have to practice the technique and how to do the things that we will have to do on the day, so we practiced high jump today and did a group run. The boys were the first to practice on the high jump and the girls went for a group run.

The girls did two laps around the field and if they stopped they would have to do another lap. Almost immediately everyone was panting and ready to quit, but the thought of doing an extra lap motivated them to keep running.

Next the boy and girls swooped, so the girls now had a chance to practice on the high jump. Almost all of the girls got over the rope, but a few didn't, but everyone still cheered them on. Mrs Parker re-taught us the scissor kick technique and told us which side of the high jump we should jump from.

Lastly anyone who wanted another turn had another turn, before everyone left so that room 9 could have their turn.

- one bad bannana

  1. What effect does this gas have on fruit?
The gas causes bananas and other fruits to ripen extremely faster, like 2-5 days fast.

  1. How is this gas produced?
The gases produce from darker and black bananas.

  1. What do you notice about the fruit in our fruit box?
They are sometimes yellow. The way I like it but, some are bit green and I don’t think it makes anyone want to eat it.

  1. What could we do to keep our fruit box fruit fresher longer?   SHARE
We could eat them as soon as they arrive, separate them from other fruits or we could just place them in a plastic bag so the the ethylene does not escape from the bananas and into the surrounding air.

- holiday explanation/recount

A Term break is when students have a two week break where you don’t have to go to school. The reason we have holidays is to have few weeks break, so you can relax and you can also visit relatives. Holidays are also good for teachers to catch up with their family, and so they can reflect on the term that just passed.  Instead  I went to the movies, suffered without internet and electricity and also visited my aunts and uncles.

I went to the movies twice, once with my Dad and my sibling and once with my Nan and sibling. I watched The maze runner and the next Step up. For three horrible days Glen Innes, Mt Wellington, Mission Bay, Pakuranga, Panmure and a few other suburbs suffered the horrible tragedy of no electricity and internet. I went to a barbeque at my Aunt and Uncles and visited them throughout the holidays.

I watched the next Step up on the second Monday of the holidays at the Manukau Movies. My nan drove my siblings and I to the movies, and then we bought the tickets to the movies. Then we went and had lunch, my younger sister and I had burger king and my brother had butter chicken. Then we went back to the movies and watch the next Step Up.

On the fourth of October there was a fire at the power station in Ellerslie causing most of the suburbs surrounding Ellerslie not to have electricity and internet. When it was night time I would hear shouting and beeping. Also at night we had to use candles to see and to barbeque food instead of cooking on an oven. I also had to boil hot water with a generator or in a pot on a barbeque. When I went to church there were no lights, so we had to open the curtains and there were no speakers, so the music was really quiet. At night all of the lights were off and you couldn’t really see that well.

Throughout the holidays I visited my Aunts and Uncles a lot. On Saturday the day after school finished I visited my Aunt and Uncle, they had a barbeque to celebrate them finally getting married. My grandpa and I cooked the food on the barbeque, which took a few hours. Then I had dinner, it was delicious. When I finished eating I was really tired, so I fell asleep on the couch watching Harry Potter.

During the holidays I went to the movies, endured three painfully long days of no internet and electricity, and also visited my aunts and uncles. The part I enjoyed the most was when I watched the Maze Runner, and i’m looking forward to watching the sequel to the Maze Runner.

- tomato fruit or vegetable part one

Yesterday I read Tomato - Fruit or Vegetable? from the journal Connect 2 200 by K.E Anderson. The question to this answer is - Is sweet corn a fruit or a vegetable?

Sweet corn could be a vegetable, I mean we eat sweet corn like it’s a vegetable, but then again sweet corn’s characteristics and oranges characteristics are almost exact. So I think it’s a fruit, but also a veg. Since all fruits are vegetables.
